Serve, forehand and volley. We open the Grand Slam season by returning to the clay of Roland Garros as official partner, with our global Lavazza brand, to share adrenalin, passion and fun with all lovers of great tennis. Our collaboration with the French Grand Slam is now in its ninth consecutive year of involving the public in the experience of our espresso coffee, between one game and another. This special event in a spellbinding setting gives us an opportunity to showcase the values we share with one of the most glorious competitions in this sport – above all passion for excellence – and also announce some of the most significant and forward-looking new developments for our Group.

«For the ninth year, we’re back at this prestigious tournament in France, which continues to be one of the Group’s most important markets.», said the Group’s new Chairman Giuseppe Lavazza, «We’re carrying forward our internationalisation process, which in a little over a decade has seen a doubling of the company’s sales, with 70% of revenues now coming from abroad and an increasingly strong focus on economic, social and environmental sustainability».

The results of Lavazza’s environmental commitment at Roland Garros

The Grand Slam thus becomes a strategic platform for announcing the latest results of our #BlendForBetter environmental and social initiatives, as published in the 2022 Sustainability Report.

From investments in ecological packaging in line with our Sustainable Packaging Roadmap (€25 million as of 2022) to extensive use of energy from renewable sources (98% of the coffee we produce is covered by renewable energy) and the recovery and recycling of waste (over 89% of waste generated by our production facilities is recovered or recycled). Our environmental and social commitment is clear, as is the message we want to put across: a sustainable future is within our reach if we work intelligently. A key role in the realisation of this vision is being played by the Lavazza Foundation, with which we’ve given a structure to our efforts since 2004, starting with support for coffee-producing communities through measurable projects that benefit over 180,000 coffee growers, organised into 33 programmes developed in 21 different countries.

It was one of these initiatives that led to the creation of La Reserva De ¡Tierra! Cuba, in a sustainable coffee production chain that has given its name to one of the blends showcased between matches at Roland Garros. The project has three objectives: to revive coffee growing in the Caribbean island, which has been drastically cut back by deforestation, thus helping to regenerate the natural environments in which coffee grows; to restore the quality of Cuban green coffee to the levels of excellence that had made it famous worldwide, by introducing innovative agronomic techniques; and to create new opportunities for coffee producing communities and shared value along the entire supply chain. All this while giving fans of great tennis and coffee lovers alike an excellent quality blend.
